Here's a list of apps that I found useful/used when I studied in Seoul.
I haven't included the obvious apps that exchangees may have most likely already downloaded, such as Facebook.

BAND
For group projects.

Candy Camera
I see girls using this app a lot to take their selca's at khiphop gigs.

Currency Converter
Self-explanatory.

Delivery App
One of the many Korean delivery apps you could use to view menus and make calls to eateries to place your order.
Only recommended for those who know enough Korean to order delivery by phone. I only used this to browse.

Easy Taxi
A friend recommended this just days before I left Korea, so I never really got to try it out.
You can call a taxi with this app basically without having to use much Korean at all.

EG Sim Card
As mentioned in a previous post about Korean SIM Cards, EG Sim Card is the ideal SIM card for us foreigners. This app was launched in early 2014 which made things a bit more easier for us foreigners. You can select to use the app in Korean, English, Chinese or Japanese, and you can manage your account on this app without having to log online to do anything.
Meaning, you can just transfer your voicecall balance to your data balance shortly after topping up at a convenience store, without having to tap through your phone's internet browser.

Google Translate
You know why.

KakaoTalk
An absolute necessity to contact not just your Korean friends but your international friends too. Everyone in Korea uses it to communicate with each other.

Kakao Story
Not really necessary but it's fun seeing your Korean friends' pics haha!

Learn Korean Phrasebook
For our fellow Korean novices!
Koreans love it when foreigners attempt to speak Korean to them. They find it incredibly awesome when a foreigner shows their knowledge about Korean language and culture.

Google Maps
You will get lost looking for that popular restaurant. Korea has too many tiny misleading streets and alleyways.

Pudding Camera
Another popular camera app amogst Koreans. For some reason I haven't seen them using it as much in recent times...

Shazam
When you hear music in Chicken Bus that you absolutely must have on your iPod! Chicken Bus has a great playlist.

Subway Navigator
Another necessity in order to travel efficiently on the subway. Pay close attention to the details of your journey displayed on the app, it will tell you what carriage doors to go to in order to make faster transfers! (For fellow KU exchangees: remember door 1-1 to transfer quickly onto line 2 at Sindang!)

XE Currency
So you know when is the right time to transfer money into your Korean bank.
