Lobby

Upon entering, to your left is the security guard's desk. Unfortunately, the security guys don't know English, and you will find yourself consulting to the dorm wardens more when issues arise - dorm wardens are fellow tennants who know both English and Korean in order to communicate between the tennants and the security guards. However, the dorm wardens are only present in the evenings from around 6pm till midnight. They are usually found sitting at a table near the security guard's desk.
Further back on the same side are 2 computers made available for students to print stuff. However, you need to set up a printing card/account before doing any printing, this requires a deposit. Alternatively, you can go to the printing shops at the PoliSci gates to print for 50₩ a sheet.
The double doors to the left of the computers leads to a secret passage that goes into the male dorm building. These doors are there for Anam Global House (AGH) tennants to easily get to the dorms' canteen, which is located at the basement of the male dorm. The double doors are unlocked during canteen opening times only.

Post room

Behind the printing computers is the post room. Large packages are placed on the floor on the left side, whilst smaller packages and letters are placed into boxes on the right.
It can take a while to look for your large package since they're kind of placed randomly on the floor. But luckily they write your name and/or room number on the parcel in black marker to make it easier for people to see/read.

NOTE: if you wish to post/mail stuff you can head to the post office on campus! The post office is right across the main entrance of the International Studies Building with staff members who know a decent amount of English.

Elevators

Unfortunately, the elevators are segregated by gender, and there are only 2. The one on  right is accessible for males only and is programmed to only take people to B1, 1F, 2F, 3F, whilst the one on the left is for females and can only access B1, 1F, 4F, 5F, 6F, and 7F.
The elevators are spacious with a large mirror inside. Upon getting in, you will see a magnetic notice board to your left where announcements are placed (in English).
B1 is the parking lot.

Common/Lounge Room

General waste, paper, and plastics (left to right)

Upon exiting the elevator to any of the floors above 1F, you will enter the lobby and see the common room in front of you. Each floor's lobby has rubbish bins provided. However, these bins require you to sort your trash into general waste (green label), paper (yellow label), and plastics (blue label) - people rarely sort their rubbish out here at AGH but it would be nice if you do so.
In the common room there is a large widescreen TV, 3 long-ish sofas/couches on the opposite side, and a set of tables and chairs in the middle. This is also where the water filter is, which offers you the option to choose between hot and cold drinking water.
In order to get to the dorm rooms from the lobby, you will need your card key to enter through the doors that leads towards them (on left and right).

Study Room

I have yet to visit the study rooms at AGH... But there's at least 1 study room on each floor.

Laundry

Doing laundry is incredibly cheap at AGH, it's 1,000 per wash, and dry. So every time you do laundry it will only cost you 2,000₩!
The room holds 6 washers and 6 dryers, an iron and ironing board, and a washing powder dispenser - washing powder satchet and fabric softner sheet for 500! There are English instructions provided in the room as well. Though, take note that the dryer instructions (pictured above) advises you to set the dryer on high heat, which could result to your laundry shrinking. So I highly advise people to go for medium heat, which is the button below the suggested one.

Kitchen & Dining Area

Dining Area - eat your delivered goods here 주세요! (September 2013)
Dining Area (July 2014)

In total, the entire kitchen area consists of 6 electric hobs, 6 sinks, 2 microwaves, 2 toasters, various cabinets/cupboards, and 5 large fridge-freezers. The kitchen is cleaned every 2 weeks on Wednesdays - timetable is up on the fridge doors. 3 of the fridge-freezers are inside the kitchen whilst the 2 are placed in the dining area. The dining area is huge with a large flat screen TV near the door, many tables and chairs, a water filter machine, and 2-3 large waste bins.
Unfortunately, there are no ovens. Luckily, everything else works  fine most of the time. Although the microwave is in Korean, it's pretty easy to understand. At the beginning of the semester, when AGH was newly opened, we had electric hobs that could only work with certain types of metallic pans. They later changed the hobs to these new ones after they  failed to function just weeks after the dorm opened. We had to use portable gas burners for 2 weeks as a result.
The kitchen also has a basket of pots and pans for the dorm residents to use. Personally I don't recommend using them so much since they already got scratch marks, and people really suck as washing them up cleanly.

It is highly recommended that you grab a space in the fridge-freezer while you can from the moment you move in since space is limited. Run to Daiso and buy a large plastic container box, label it with your name and/or room number and slot it into a space wherever possible - do the same for the freezer. I cannot emphasise this more for my fellow cooking enthusiasts!
Sometimes people may attempt to shove their bagged foods into gaps, which can get annoying since sometimes they're not tied up properly, therefore resulting to food spillage in the fridge. One time there was bagged meat with a hole on the bag, so blood was dripping from the top to the bottom shelf - my milk carton ended up getting covered in blood! Another bad thing is when someone leaves broken eggs in the fridge, or even on the floor in front of the fridge, to sit there until someone voluntarily comes over to clean it up.

Despite having labelled your food and such, some people in the dorm could still use/take your stuff without your permission. There have been various incidents where people have done this, and the victims have had to tape up messages on cupboard doors and fridge doors to serve as a warning reminder. A friend who lived in CJ International house also had this problem where someone used up half of her jar of Yuja Tea!

The eating/dining area is huge and spacious, so don't worry about not being able to find a seat to eat at here!
More importantly, AGH does NOT allow you to bring delivered food back up to your room with you to eat. They require you to eat your delivered goods in this eating area. This is so that they can reduce the risk of a cockroach infestation in the rooms. Apparently they were too lax with it in some of the male dorms before, and now there are random cockroaches in the male dorm rooms.

Getting Around

How to walk to the Media Building from Anam Global House
There are two ways to walk between the university (well, the Media building to be specific) and AGH.
The quickest way from AGH to the Main Campus is to take the green path shown on the picture above. You go straight towards the KU bus shuttle station and keep walking down till you see a gate on your right, then turn into it. Basically, just keep walking straight from AGH, don't take a right down the hill towards the stairs and other dorms. This route takes 10 minutes for one to get to the media building.
If you prefer to grab breakfast/a drink before heading to class with plenty of time to spare, or have class at the Science Campus, you can take the slightly longer route (takes 15 minutes) down the stairs, and onto Anam's main street (the blue path).
Alternatively, you can try use the KU shuttle bus - I have yet to use them so I don't really know the route or timetable.

  1. Hi, thank you so much for this useful information cause there is almost nothing about AGH on KU dorms website. I tried e-mailing them but they did not reply to me and I am moving in in a few days...is it possible to send my luggage in advance via 택배 (I live in Korea but not in Seoul)) since you mentioned a post room? What's the mailing address (couldn't find it on the website)?

    1. Unfortunately they've been very slow with replies this summer break :( They didn't reply to me or my friend until after we flew back home!
You should be able to to mail your luggage there in advance, send them an email (reslife@korea.ac.kr) or call them at +82-2) 3290-1554 to notify them first.

      The address is:

  2. Would you recommend buying your own pots and pans then? Did you just leave yours behind when you moved out?

  3. Hi! I know I´m a bit late here... but I need your help :) Would you recommend Anam Global House over CJ International House? or which one do you think is better?

    1. CJ is definitely better in my opinion. It's a little further up the hill, but I think it's worth it if you plan on doing any cooking. CJ has multiple kitchens on every floor, but Anam only has kitchens in the basement. I studied abroad at Korea University in Spring 2016, so feel free to ask me any questions you have.
